Complex repairs needed to A96 bridge

There's going to be "detailed and complex repairs" on an A96 bridge after a landslide last weekend.

It was caused by heavy rain in the area near Keith.

Temporary traffic lights and a safety barrier are in place to keep people safe.

Engineers carried out visual inspections on Monday (July 22) to determine the extent of the issues needing addressed.

An Amey spokesperson said: “Clearly our immediate concern is one of safety for road users, pedestrians and our own teams following an incident like this. However, we will continue to monitor the situation with regular inspections as we carry on with our work to identify what needs to be done.

“While our work progresses immediately on identifying the most appropriate permanent solution, this is likely to be a detailed and complex process involving liaison with a range of other agencies, including utility providers, to determine the extent of the damage and any associated implications for permanent repairs.

“The structure which carries the A96 across the river, is Grade C listed so this will require additional consideration in conjunction with the appropriate authority.

“Whilst we acknowledge the impact to road users and the local community, the traffic management is essential to keep everyone safe. The situation will continue to be monitored by our Journey Time Reliability Coordinators.”

Amey says there will be regular inspections at this section of the route between Aberdeen and Inverness.
