Inverurie shop sealed off after overnight break-in

An Inverurie shops was cordoned off following a break-in.

Police were called to the Co-op on Burghmuir Drive just after 4am. 

The store was closed to the public. 

Workers have spent the day replacing the front window of the store after the original one was smashed.

A Co-op spokesperson confirmed that alcohol was stolen from the premises.

A Co-op spokesperson said: “There was a break-in during the early hours of this morning (Monday, 22 July) where a small quantity of alcohol was taken.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused while the store remains temporarily closed to allow police to investigate, and for repairs to be undertaken to ensure the entrance is safe and secure.

“The store expects to re-open later this afternoon (Monday, 22 July) to serve and support the community.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.05am on Monday, 22 July 2024, police received a report of a break-in at a business premises in Burghmuir Drive, Inverurie.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”
