Man convicted of wilful fire-raising in Fraserburgh

The case called at the High Court in Edinburgh.

A man from Fraserburgh has pled guilty to charges of wilful fire raising, assault and causing danger to life.

Michal Morawski, 32, was convicted at the High Court in Edinburgh on Thursday (13 June).

The incident happened around 3.20am on 27 June, when Morawski set fire to a property on Glover Close while a 29-year-old woman was still inside.

He is due to be sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on 7 August.

Detective Sergeant Richard Cooper of Fraserburgh CID said: “This was a hugely distressing ordeal for Morawski’s victim who could have lost her life as a result of this incident.

“He will now have to face the consequences of his despicable actions and I hope this will help the victim in moving forward.

“We are committed to bringing perpetrators of such violent crimes to justice and we will always offer victims of such offences the support they need.”
